Vineyard Report from David Botting, Chief Viticulturist - September 2nd 2013

Blog

Pruning is winding up this week; in Margaret River the pruning teams have Cabernet to wrap down, as well as some Cabernet Franc to finish. Down in the Great Southern, the pruning team only has Sauvignon Blanc to wrap down.

Bud burst in early-pruned Chardonnay blocks is well underway in both regions. The sheep grazing in the vineyard for weed management over the winter season were removed from the Leston Vineyard in Margaret River last week.

There is plenty of water in storage in Margaret River; dams and soil profiles are full and we haven't needed to pump any of our water allocation from Wilyabrup Brook. Not much at the Mt Barrow vineyard, however, the soil profile is full and we are now capturing run-off in the dams which will continue for another month or so.

Both vineyard teams are now getting ready for the new growing season.
