I'm thrilled to announce the inaugural release of wines from the Howard Park Cellar Collection on Tuesday, 11th August 2015.
Howard Park Wines has evolved over the last thirty years from a micro concern producing two wines from purchased grapes in to one of Australia’s most esteemed and diverse family wine companies, with substantial vineyard holdings in Western Australia’s premium regions of Margaret River and the Great Southern. We also have longstanding relationships with committed growers, which ensures access to additional parcels of superb fruit beyond that produced from our own vineyards.
It’s been a pleasure and a privilege for me to assist and interact with our customers since I took up the Mail Order manager position at Burch Family Wines in early 2012. What has always stood out during my conversations with our mailing list members, at events or just during the course of everyday business, is the enthusiasm for the wines in general and a genuine interest in what we do and our progress and growth as quality wine producers.
The Howard Park Cellar Collection reflects a desire to create some special wines for the exclusive enjoyment of those loyal and valued customers who have followed and supported us on our journey. Small batch offerings from distinctive vineyards, or carefully considered barrel selections to create innovative blends will give each release its point of difference from the wines in our established range.
They will always be limited edition bottlings, available only to our mailing list and wine club members, and crafted carefully to ensure the finished wines are individual and distinctive, with a point of difference which adds another layer of interest and context to our regular offerings. Cellar Collection wines will punch above their weight in value terms and have the versatility to impress and delight as young flavoursome wines while also rewarding those who will set aside some in their own cellars to build refined and complex mature characters.
For the inaugural red release our Chief winemaker Janice McDonald has produced a 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz, a much enjoyed combination for many red lovers, from 13 specially selected barrels, which highlights the exciting flavour potential available from blending Margaret River Cabernet with Frankland River Shiraz. Our white release is a 2014 Chardonnay which celebrates the glory and harmony that different sites in Margaret River can bring to the variety, and is a limited bottling of only 8 barrels.
We have sought feedback from Australia’s leading wine critics to ensure we are on the right track with these wines, and were delighted with these recent reviews on The Winefront by Campbell Mattinson:
Howard Park Cellar Collection Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2013
Margaret River cabernet sauvignon teams up with Frankland River shiraz. Yes. Excellent form. Not a big wine but a beautifully shaped one. Currants, mulberry, cigars and gum nuts. Hits the mouth and runs a distance. Classical. Rated : 94 Points, Price: $32 Drink: 2018 - 2030+
Howard Park Cellar Collection Chardonnay 2014
Margaret River chardonnay. Limited release. A sunny disposition with a cool, cutting finish. A nice person gives you a cold stare. There’s surely a food application. Lemon, metal, grapefruit and oak-spice. Sizzles through the mouth. Rated : 91+ Points Price : $32 Drink : 2016 – 2020
I hope to be able to share the enjoyment of these first releases with our members and also receive their valuable feedback. It would be ideal to see the Cellar Collection evolve in response to the support and interest shown by those valued customers that we’ve produced these wines for.
