January Wrap Up of Events

From intimate wine masterclasses to watching movies under the stars with a glass of wine in hand, our guests were treated to some truly special experiences.

So with the first month of the year done and dusted, let’s take a look at the events that made it so memorable…

Oysters and Riesling

It wouldn’t be the new year without this much-anticipated annual event! Held at our Margaret River Winery Cellar Door on the weekend of 14th and 15th January, we celebrated a fine pairing of food and drink by giving our guests the opportunity to sample our range of delectable Rieslings while enjoying some freshly shucked oysters. Great company and picnic blankets aplenty, many guests soaked up the summer sun while listening to the chilled out beats of local lads Kachina DJ’s. Others enjoyed a great game of bocce on our beautiful lawn with a glass of wine in hand. As always, this event was a great way for our guests to mingle with other wine lovers and enjoy the beautiful surrounds of our Leston Vineyard.

Burgundy, Champagne and Charcuterie Masterclasses

Guests were invited to join our Mail Order Manager, David Stredwick, in our private Wine Chapel at the Howard Park Winery in Margaret River for a truly special wine tasting experience. These intimate masterclass sessions provided the opportunity to taste three champagnes from the House of Franck Bonville as well as the complete set of 2014 vintage wines from the Marchand & Burch French Collection. Accompanying each tasting was a selection of charcuterie, specially chosen to complement the wines being served.

A total of 10 wines were tasted during each masterclass including:

·         Franck Bonville Blanc de Blancs Brut NV

·         Franck Bonville Brut Millesime 2009

·         Franck Bonville Brut Millesime 2010

·         2014 Marchand & Burch Bourgogne Rouge Pinot Noir

·         2014 Marchand & Burch Marsannay

·         2014 Marchand & Burch Morey-Saint-Denis

·         2014 Marchand & Burch Beaune Premier Cru Clos du Roi

·         2014 Marchand & Burch Gevrey-Chambertin

·         2014 Marchand & Burch Vosne-Romanee

·         2014 Marchand & Burch Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru

As the masterclasses were kept to an intimate number of 12 people, guests were able to completely immerse themselves in the unique experience. It was a great opportunity to enjoy some beautiful Blanc de Blancs grower Champagnes as well as have an in depth look across a vintage of Burgundy Pinot Noir and compare and contrast wines from different villages in the Côte d’or.

Movies Under the Denmark Stars

During the month of January our Denmark winery once again turned into an outdoor cinema, screening some of 2016's best movies!

The 'Movies Under the Denmark Stars' season at our Howard Park & MadFish Denmark winery ran from the 31st December through to Saturday the 28th January. Held on the beautiful lawns outside our Cellar Door, the area was transformed into a relaxing outdoor cinema, screening a movie every Saturday night for the month. Delicious hot food, coffee, ice cream, freshly made popcorn and a selection of wines were made available for guests to order. This was a fantastic way to enjoy those beautiful balmy nights while bidding farewell to the Denmark Cellar Door, which has now closed allowing us to focus on our Great Southern vineyards and Margaret River sites.

Chinese New Year Celebrations

At our Margaret River Cellar Door, we always endeavour to provide an exceptional experience for our visitors. So with Chinese New Year on the horizon, we wanted to make our international guests from destinations such as Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan feel at home with some special festivities.

Featuring a variety of Chinese decorations, we welcomed all guests with ang pows, which are red envelopes that traditionally offer money. Ours, however, were filled with Chinese proverbs and a note to win either a chocolate gold coin, an orange, or a bottle of red wine. These gifts were specifically chosen as money, oranges and the colour red are all symbols of good luck and prosperity synonymous with Chinese New Year. Horoscopes were displayed for guests to read through, which told them the traits of their ‘animal and a full description of what they could expect in the coming Year of the Rooster. Guests from all over the world enjoyed these festivities regardless of their cultural beliefs, making it a terrific way to experience our wine tastings with an interesting twist.
