Wine Reviews

2009 Howard Park Grand Jete Sparkling
“Sourced from Mount Barker, Great Southern vineyards and spends 36 months on lees to build complexity. Howard Park’s commitment and connections to sparkling wine and Champagne (they import/co-opt with some French producers) are telling an increasingly potent story. Toasted brioche, some nuttiness, honey, lemon curd bouquet. Fleshy textured, ripe appley fruit flavours, zingy acid driven finish. Chalkiness to texture, really pure, driving, lemon-to-saline feel. Pretty brisk and refreshing style on hand here with some weight behind it.”

2012 Howard Park Leston Cabernet Sauvignon
“A selection of various vineyards in Margaret River and Great Southern it’s beautifully crafted from the nose of pure delight through a multitude of flavours as it travels across the palate, it’s still tight in structure and that holds a couple of points back but an easy 94 and for those with the money $54 is a fair price.”
Rob Geddes, ‘Father’s day: Top wines for your dad at all budgets’, News.com.au

2014 Howard Park Miamup Chardonnay
“All parts are almost as they should be, very slightly out of alignment at the time of tasting (February 2015) but should settle into place during the year. 92 now, more down the track and value at $28.”

2014 MadFish Premium White
“A delicious little chardonnay: stimulating and refreshing. The aromas are fresh and lively; the taste is crisp and tangy with a trace of grapefruit.”

NV MadFish Vera's Cuvee Sparkling White
“A perfect, delicate, aperitif-style sparkling wine from Australia. Light citrus notes bound out of the glass along with some bready, toasty notes. The palate is lively and crisp and very impressive overall. A good party wine.”
Will Lyons, Wall Street Journal

2014 Marchand & Burch Porongurup Chardonnay
“Light, bright yellow colour with a dairy-like aroma, creamy and possibly malo influenced. The acidity is bracingly high and refreshing, the palate taut and very lively, vivacious and tangy, ultra-long and super-fine. A superb cool-climate chardonnay. Very powerful, and the length is incredible. It will age very well, too.”
97 points – Huon Hooke, Huonhooke.com

Champagne Franck Bonville Grand Cru Avize Blanc de Blancs 2009
“Wonderful aged character on the nose, rounded in the mouth soft and silky on the journey with a long finish and a good return 95 points and for Champagne $58 is good value.”
95 points – Tony Keys, The Key Report
