Last week, Burch Family Wines’ second-generation Burch and Operations Manager Natalie Burch and Senior Winemaker extraordinaire Janice McDonald attended Tyson Stelzer’s Taste Champagne event in Melbourne.
The event presented attendees with a rare opportunity to compare 129 champagnes from 52 producers of all different sizes, from big names, co-ops & grower producers.
The diversity was outstanding & apart from consolidating their love for champagne & giving them ideas for the direction of Burch Family Wines’ own sparkling production, it crystallised the many nuances & complexity of this style of winemaking.
Next year, Burch Family Wines hope to present our own grower champagne producer, Franck Bonville, who would have stood well amongst the impressive company at the tasting.
The Bonville family have been growing Grand Cru chardonnay in the Cote des Blancs since the turn of the last century & specialise in fine, subtle champagnes.
