““Medium to full red/purple colour. Sweetly perfumed dark cherry and spice aromas, reserved and discreet, subtle and yet complex and charming. Smoky, char oak. Sweet entry, very ripe fruit and very soft, with light, gentle caressing tannins that are beautifully harmonised. A succulent, delicious wine. Softens a little towards the back-palate to a lie down and tickle my tummy finish. Sublime wine.”

“An overtly spicy, cool and elegant nose that features a broad array of earth, game, underbrush, humus and stone notes that marry into opulently rich, full-bodied and quite serious big-bodied flavors that possess excellent mid-palate concentration and simply gorgeous length on the quite firmly structured finale. This will require close to 20 years to be at its best.”

Technical Notes
Vintage 2009:
There is great excitement about the 2009 Burgundy vintage with many reports ranking it among the best Burgundy vintages of recent times. Both reds and whites show tremendous promise, possibly not quite possessing the kind of underlying structure of the 2005s but an outstanding vintage nonetheless.
Appellation d’origine Controlée: Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Category: Grand Cru appellation
Region: Côte de Nuits
Producing Commune: Gevrey-Chambertin
Vineyard:
From 60 year old vines in the Clos de Bèze vineyard. ‘Primus inter pares’ (first among equals) is the way that Chambertin-Clos de Bèze is seen in the company of other Grand Crus, and this wine shows why. The class and the power are unmistakeable. Soils are chalk and Bajocian limestone, white oolite (marnes blanches) in the upper part of the slope, pebbles and clay, the proportion of fine earth to pebbles (68% to 32%) is the same as Montrachet.
Vinification:
Harvested by hand
15% whole clusters
Small cold maceration
23 days of maceration with pigeages and remontage
Vertical press
Ageing:
100% of new barrels from Allier (light and soft toast).
One racking during the ageing.
No filtration and fining.
Bottled in July 2011 on a fruit day.
All the ageing operations are carried out according to the lunar calendar.
Tasting Notes
Opulent red and blue fruits balanced by considerable oak tannin with savoury and smokey notes. Rich and powerful fruit on the palate with a great depth of flavour, presence, fine tannin and a mineral acidity. A wine of enormous potential.
