Morey-St-Denis is a commune and corresponding appellation in the Cote de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy.  The vast majority of production is Pinot Noir, with only a tiny amount of vineyard land planted to Chardonnay.  Its position between the legendary neighbouring villages of Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny bears some telling relevance to the style and quality of its wines.  The style of an archetypal Morey-Saint-Denis wine is a mid-point between the firm, substantial style of Gevrey-Chambertin and the bold, but slightly more open, perfumed style of Chambolle-Musigny.

    Tasting Notes

The dark, gently brooding colour leads into perfumed and lightly gamey aromas of wild strawberries and darker cherries. The palate opens with matching up front flavours, with sweet fruit and gently firm tannins, this has the typical Morey earthy “sauvage” characters (like walking through a forest after the rain) to complement duck with cherries, and it has excellent ageing potential.
