100% Pinot Gris
Manjimup Pinot Gris is part of our regional range that represents premium fruit sourced from the Manjimup region of south west, Western Australia. In this range, the varieties are grown where the fruit has the maximum potential to express the best of the variety.
In the temperate south west of Western Australia, the winter of 2015 was typically dry and mild yet sufficiently wet enough to fill catchments. The spring, less blustery than preceding years and the start to summer, warm to hot. As summer progressed, the weather conditions across the south west regions began to diverge from the typical summer pattern. A significant and unprecedented deluge in late January caused flash flooding and road closures in the Manjimup region. In hindsight, the rain was more a blessing than a curse, due to the dryness of the soil profile and the timing of the event. When verasion began in late January, the native marri blossom was strong enough to keep the birds at bay. ‘Bird pressure’ as we call it, does have a significant impact on quality, quantity and stress levels.
In summary, wine quality across the south west ranges from good to great. Aromatic whites such as Pinot Gris have produced very high quality, truly varietal wines.
Fermented in old French oak by the indigenous yeast population that inhabits our winery and allowed to undergo partial malolactic to add texture and complexity.
Alcohol: 13%v/v | Acidity: 6.25g/l | pH: 3.24 | Residual Sugar: 0.7 g/lt
The gentle gold colour of this wine is a vinified reflection of the pink/grey skin tones of the Pinot Gris grape. Pomme fruit notes of pear and apple mingle with delicate honey aromas and citrus zest. The palate has intense yet subtle and melded fruit flavours, a silky texture, gentle acidity and a mineral salt, savoury finish.
